Using Stencils and graph paper and peyote stitch

Ever thought about drawing images with beads?
Here's how:
Step one - choose an image/drawing you want to bead.
Step two - find a stencil for your image by browsing the internet. Many people have very nice stencils already made and FREE (that's the best part). You can of course change the color scheme on the stencil if it's not to your liking.
              - if you can't find what you are looking for, or you're not satisfied with what you have found, simply download a graph sheet here and start designing your own.
Step three - choose the color and size of your beads.
Tip: the best choice of beads would be 2mm (or smaller) seed beads, and  as even as possible.
This is why i would choose Japanese beads, for those are the most even of all (although they are more costly than your average seed beads). If you are going to use the "normal" variety of beads, better select beads that are the same size and shape BEFORE you start beading; from experience i can say that if you select the beads as you bead, the time spent on you project might even triple.
Step four - start beading using flat peyote stitch and have fun!

Here's an earring sized hexagonal graph  sheet:

Sartrus's Beaded: Right Angle Weave stitch

Right Angle Weave stitch

All around the www there are huge fans of this stitch.
I find it rather complicated and slow, even tho if i would use more bicone crystals, i would probably use it more.
Here's my right angle weave stitch:

Flat and 3D peyote stitch?

This project is all about bead size. The stitch is a simple even count peyote one, but by alternating 2mm green round seed beads with 3mm white tubular and 4mm green beads, I ended up with this:

Blue Arabic patterned earrings

Blue Arabic patterned earrings

For this project I've used 2 mm seed beads in light blue and cream, 0.14 mm fishing line and metal findings.
This is a 1 drop peyote stitch. The pattern comes from www.about.com.

Toggle and Clasp

Beaded Toggles and Clasps are very beautiful and can be attached to numerous beading projects.
Here's one attached to bracelet i beaded:

Spiral Rope stitch

The spiral rope stitch is an easy to make stitch, fast to work with (one of the fastest i've tried - compared to the result) and very handy for necklaces and bracelets.
Here's my example of a spiral stitch rope set:

African Helix stitch

The African Helix stitch is great for bangles!
Here's one of mine:

Russian Stitch

The Russian stitch can be used to make necklaces, bracelets etc. but the most impressing things to bead with it are (imho) the Russian leaves, similar to those that i made. Check it out:

Tubular peyote stitch

The tubular peyote stitch - much stiffer than the herringbone one.
Here's a bracelet I've beaded with this stitch:

Tubular Herringbone/Ndebele stitch

The tubular Herringbone/Ndebele stitch is great for bracelets and necklaces.
I prefer it for bracelets over other stitches because they end up more flexible, there for more wearable.
There are two ways to do this stitch: straight or twisted.
Here is a set i beaded by combining the two stitches:

Ladder stitch Tutorial

The easiest stitch there is : the ladder stitch.
It is the base for some other neat stitches.

Here we go

Here are pictures of some of my work.
I plan on having a section dedicated to beading tutorials. Since i haven't found a well documented tutorial collection, i will post links to tutorials i find the most useful.

So this is a bracelet made with 4 mm glass beads (about 20 grams) in right angle weave , then a type of fringe and the toggle and clasp are sewn with a flat peyote stitch. For the fringe and the toggle and clasp I've used a combo of goldish and green seed beads mix (round 2 mm and tubular 2 mm beads).
Since this was my first beaded piece, I've used two types of thread: one was surgical thread for the right angle weave, and for the rest i used really thin fishing line.

The bracelet in this picture has 20 strands of beads (see how to here ); The necklace is just a simple twisted one, on which i added a glass pendant with a peyote triangle (will soon post a tutorial for this one).
Beads used: 2 mm light blue, black, grey silver lined  and honey brown seed beads; 3 mm metal coated plastic beads. Also used 0.14 mm fishing line.

Since this was intended as a set, i made these 3D triangle peyote earrings (will also post my tutorial for this stitch).
